Book Reviews of The HobbitBook Review: Evelyn [reviews] "The Hobbit" Summary: 4 Stars
Bilbo Baggins of The Shire is a hobbit. Hobbit are very small people that look very similar to us except they have large feet. Bilbo considers himself a treasure seeker and this is how he got hooked up with Gandalf the Gray and a group of 13 dwarves. The dwarves needed a fourteenth person for their journey and Gandalf recommended Bilbo. Gandalf the Gray is a very old traveling wizard that is known by many people. Gandalf was friends with several of Bilbo's ancestors and Bilbo was very familiar with him. The dwarves work endlessly underground looking for treasures in the Misty Mountains. The dwarves needed to get rid of a dragon and Bilbo and Gandalf were going to help. The book describes the events before The Fellowship of the Ring,so, the most exciting part to me was the capturing or the Ring from Gollum. The story concluds with Bilbo being rich in gold and being admired by other hobbits for his great adventure.
Book Review: Excellent Reading but Beware glue on CDs Summary: 4 Stars
This is an excellent reading of the Hobbit, and I'm really enjoying it. The reader does a great job of doing all the voices. I'd give it five stars but the quality of the CD manufacturing is not the best. I actually found some globs of rubber cement or sticky glue on the bottom of two of them. I finally got it cleaned off, but not before I had already tried the CD in my computer and a glob of glue mucked up the DVD burner and I had to replace it. I was pretty upset. There wasn't any glue on the packaging, just 2 CD's which I've never seen before. So just check them carefully.
But the reading of the book itself is so great, and the book so good that it kind of softens the blow. At least I had a tower PC and could just put in a new DVD burner. So just check the CD's when you get it first.
Book Review: Excellent choice Summary: 5 Stars
The Hobbit is an excellent choice for any fantasy book lover. The unabridged version is of excellent quality and a great book to listen to in one's leisure time. I have and will continue to listen to The Hobbit multiple times.
Book Review: Excellent reading! Summary: 5 Stars
Obviously "The Hobbit" is a great book, what impressed me was how well Rob Inglis read it. Wonderful voices for each of the main characters and actually singing all the poems/songs really made me apprieciate them more!Fifteen birds in five fir trees!.....
Book Review: Fun to Read, Fun to Listen To. Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I had both read The Hobbit previously to listening to this recording of the book, so we were both familiar with the story. However, hearing it read so well with such expression made it come alive all over again, without seeming boring or rote. We appreciated Rob Inglis's voices for various main characters and were entertained by his interpretation of the passages consisting mainly of songs, which, put to a tune, were more entertaining than simply reading them as verse. If you are looking for a well made, unabridged recording of a J.R.R. Tolkien classic, this is it!
