Book Reviews of The Holographic Universe

Book Review: A *must* read for any serious paranormal researcher!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a member of North Wales Paranormal Research, and was up until recently pretty sceptical about the existence of ghosts and other parapsychological elements. Why? Because I have a degree in Astrophysics and have been educated with science. Science is a belief, not unlike the belief other people have in ghosts. And beliefs are like addictions. It's very difficult to put aside your beliefs and accept a new way of thinking.

This book changes that. It has completely opened my mind on many aspects of the paranormal, and I have been raving about it ever since I started reading it several weeks ago!

Michael Talbot's presentation of a completely radical idea that basically throws out almost everything we know about science was a bold move, but he does it in such a way that it is extremely compelling, backed up by lots of experimental (and anecdotal in some cases...) evidence and is certainly believable - if you can get your head around the ideas!!!

The EPR paradox that has been mentioned in several reviews on this page was put beautifully in that instead of envisaging two separate particles at a great distance, we are looking at two unfoldings of the same particle. To illustrate this, the book asks you to imagine a fish-tank being monitored by two cameras, one from the side and one from the front. Looking at the two images on the monitors, we see two fish that look similar, but different. One faces forwards and the other faces sideways. But when one fish turns, the other one turns at the same time. So while they *look* like different fish, we can see that they are in fact connected - they are the same fish viewed from a different angle. (I can't do any of these explanations justice!!! :D)

The book goes on to explain how several paranormal phenomena fit into the model, such as poltergeist activity, psychokinesis, stigmata, OBEs and NDEs, auras & healing, psychic abilities, astral projection and remote viewing, hauntings, etc... This is where my particular interest lies.

The idea that the universe is a hologram constructed by our brains is quite difficult to get my head around - that time and space do not really exist, and everything is just a load of frequencies that interfere to create our "reality". It's like trying to visualise a four-dimensional object. We can consciously imagine 3-D objects because we're used to it, but trying to imagine a 4-D object is not possible for us, and maybe it's a similar thing for the holographic universe. We're not meant to see it as it is.

Anyway, I'm confusing myself now - I'll just say that this book is a MUST read! As many others have said in their reviews, it will completely change your view of the world!!!

Book Review: excellant and worth reading
Summary: 5 Stars

hi

after reading the recommendations that are also here, I decided to buy this book. As recently i have been studying this idea as I am artist and I do artwork based on the illusion of reality.
After reading this book i can't stress to you how well this book defines and describes the holographic universe. It first states what it is? and then describes how we as people it affects? Also mentions conclusions to what this knowledge means.

The only pitfall of the book is that it at times tends to repeat information over and over for like 2 or 3 pages. It seemed a bit unusual as the book is reasonably difficult to read as the language is long but to repeat information didn't right.

Although the book has pitfalls from what I read I would recommentd this book to anyone with an interest in this subject.

Book Review: opens your mind
Summary: 5 Stars

Quote from book

"We are addicted to our beliefs and we do act like addicts when someone tries to wrest from us the powerful opium of our dogmas. And since western science has devoted several centuries to not believing in the paranormal, it is not going to surrender its addiction lightly"

Michael Talbot writes with such flair and passion, this book has one of the best introductions you are ever likely to read and you actually get excited at the prospect of turning the pages before the adventure as it were has even begun. The 'adventure' unfolds in two parts, 1 part 55 pages long devoted to the holographic model 1st put together by David Bohm and , It does include science and to those of us uninitiated with scientific realms, do not fret the basic gist of what the Holographic Universe is about can be grasped because Michael has done his best to simplify the terminology and I personally do not think he could have done any better explaining the concepts.

Part 2 is a much better read and is devoted to a collection of paranormal events, which is where the Author's heart really lies. The old phrase of, 'Minds are like parachutes they only operate when open' springs to mind but a cord has to be pulled on the parachute first, and this is the vein in which this book was written, to act as the cord to open our minds, if you let it, you can be witness to other possibilities, other suggestions and other realms.

Some things are still in the 'strange but true' category of events, what Michael Talbot using the Holograph Universe 'theory' does is try to put these events into a form that can be rationalized and so no longer appear strange.

There is very little humour in this book but this does not matter because of the fascinating content. At times this content could challenge your belief system which in turn makes you think what is written is a farce and untrue, if you let it, however if you accept that these things quite possibly have happened then you will have a wonderful adventure and I wish you all the best for your journey back home 302 pages later.

Book Review: AT LAST
Summary: 5 Stars

I can truely say that this is one of the most educational books regarding are present state of mind I have ever read.
Talbot is not only making a statement into how we view our world,
but he also gives the reasons and science behind it.
FANTASTIC READING

Book Review: A great book for anyone whether familiar with science or not
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't fault this book on its content. It gives a clear and concise introduction to Holomovement and its implications. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone interested in understanding how supernatural and related phenomena can be understood through science. My only criticism is that the book is too short and I would have liked more detail. A great book for anyone whether familiar with science or not.
