Book Reviews of The Holy Bible King James Version: 1611 EditionBook Review: A Sacred Feeling Restored Summary: 5 StarsI recieved my 1611 edition today (hardcover) I must say when I opened the pages a feeling of sacredness returned to me that I havent felt for quite some time. I guess over time I've become somewhat insensitive to what a wonderful gift The Bible truely is to mankind. I bought the 1611 edition to have and study a more complete KJV Bible which included the apocrypha but what I got was much more than that. A reminder of the all the faith, the work, and zeal (Not to mention countless lives of the martyred)that has been put into writing, preserving, and carefully translating this truely sacred book.
I've barely been able to put it down. The slightly disorienting spelling of the old english words are less bothersome than I imagined. I find myself reading more slowly and carefully over the texts because of this, yet I found this to be more of a blessing than a bother. Again, I am reminded that this is a book, more than any other, should be read more carefully and closely.
An undisputed champion of beautiful and poetic Literature. An uncompromising and remarkable peice of art and history. An unequalled and unsurpassed influence of all mankind spanning thousands of years. A well-spring of testimony of God's love toward his people. What other book can say this? In this day and age where there are so many "new" and revised and re-revised editions this book (1611 edition) is not only refreshing but perhaps even neccesary.
Once it was in my hands this edition of the King James absolutely reaffirmed my faith in the Bible itself. Taking me back to times when men spent their entire lives, translating or hand copying the Bible so that someone, somewhere could hold in their hands the Word of God. So in conclusion, if you are a history buff, a casual reader, a Bible Scholar, A lost soul searching for answers, or perhaps just a curious Child of God. The Holy Bible has what you need. And the 1611 edition is a faithful and refreshing recreation of the King James Holy Bible. You won't regret buying this.
Book Review: The Holy Bible King James Version: 1611 Edition Summary: 5 Stars This is a well made book. The pages are, however, very thin and hard to turn, the printing on the reverse page can be seen, but not enough to be a bother. It is a an exact copy and is in the english of the 1600's so it takes a little to get used to. However it is much easier than the 1526 Tyndel N.T. I infact refer to the 1611 while reading the 1526 Tyndel.
This is the versed Bible that we are used to seeing. I prefer the Tyndel as it is in the original form. Versed Bibles are much too often used for agendas, taking the verses out of context to prove an argument. Still I perfer KJV 1611 over anything that came after as it still has 80 books, 14 more than the versions we see today, and 9 more then the Catholic versions.
All in all I use this version more than any other (I have 6 versions and am awaiting the complete E.O. version scheduled for 2007) when I need to refer to the Bible. I then double check with the 1526 Tyndel N.T. or the Tanack (Jewish Bible) for the O.T.
All serious students of the Bible should have a copy of this version as well as the Tyndel version.
Book Review: THE BIBLE Summary: 5 Stars This is truelly an awesome bible. I purchased it for one of the West Memphis 3 and it is a truelly wanderfull feeling to bring hope to someone so degraded. I have also enjoyed the fact that it has the APOCRYPHA that is left out of most bibles and now you can enjoy the whole thing. Although with a learning disability this bible will help improve your reading skills and bring you to the healing touch of Jesus Christ who loves freely; Romans 10:9-13.
There are others that Judge and never show love others, and I have had to compare this bible's 1 Corinthian 13, and I learned what it truelly means to love. Through reading the Apocrypha I restored the friendships I destroyed, and god made them better than ever. I have never been through so much termoil in my life, but now I have ever last peace and hope to that fact of Jesus Christ.
Threw study I have found that both the New and Old testament and the Apocrypha, complement each other. None of them ever contradict each other. Many people try to find way to disprove the bible, especially the KJV, but they alway get disproven by one manner or another.
All I can do for the people around me know is pray but that is in itself a blessing to do for it help people more than you can ever know.
Book Review: The Bible That Stabilized the English Church Summary: 5 StarsIn the course of reading the other reviews, I am reminded that the reformation is still alive and well. Old divisions are as entrenched as ever, exemplified by the vollies exchanged below.
For many here, it seems that the 1611 KJV was the great emancipating translation that delivered England from the grasp of the Vulgate. This is not quite the case. By the time the KJV was finished, England had been blessed with several translations over an 80 year period, including translations by Tyndale, Coverdale, Matthews, and the Geneva. Tyndale, in particular, should be credited most for producing a translation "which even the lowliest of plowboys could read." It should also be noted the over 80% of Tyndale's translation was incorporated in the KJV. Depending on your allegences, he is the true hero, or villian in the triumph of the English Bible.
However, this point should not overshadow the importance of this most welcomed re-publication. Tyndale, himself, said "if any would choose to improve upon my work, let them be welcomed." I believe he would have been awed (and a bit flattered) by the 1611 KJV.
Its setting was amid a struggle between the English High Church and Puritans. Both had their own translations; the Anglican Bishop's Bible and the Puritan Geneva Bible. James' milestone was to include both High Church and Puritan scholars to produce a Bible which all could accept.
He got that and much, much more. It is an absolutely beautiful work of literature. Anybody who speaks English should have this translation. We read and listen to Shakespeare in his original venacular. To truly appreciate the KJV, the same should be observed.
While many in the Puritan camp continued to accuse the KJV of papist leanings, by the end of the century, it was the dominant translation for most English speaking denominations. This unifying element helped galvinize the English mindset and had no small part in forming a world where English is now the international language. Its that important!
Book Review: Best Choice for the Real Bible Believer Summary: 5 StarsUnlike all other versions of the Bible, this is the ONLY true version. Only the King James Version will do for seeking the truth in all accuracy. The 1611 version is unique. It gives a little more religious history of how a church service may have been set up in the 1600's. It is almost like owning a bit of history. Like what it may have been like when our forefathers escaped Catholic control in England and brought this Bible here. DO NOT fall into the trap of " easier to read bibles" or "more accurate translations". trust the God to teach you which bible is correct. Many trustworthy books on the correct version can help you decide. Be a real Christian and look into it yourself. The worst part of this bible is the apocrypha. But it is an exact copy of the original and unfortunately, printing of this in the 1600's had to contain these writings.
