Book Reviews of The Horse Whisperer

Book Review: AMAZING WRITTING!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this book to be an amazing and captivating novel. I was swept from New York to Montana and felt every moment of the accident with Grace. Nicholas Evans has an amaving ability to place the reader at a location without going on to the point of boredom. Normally I am not a reader but I found putting this book down very hard. I have never truly been able to say that I enjoyed reading a book before this. It was far better then the movie and I recommend it to anyone who truly loves good writting!!!

Book Review: Adultery is not heroic.
Summary: 2 Stars

This book was an incredible let-down. Am I really supposed to believe that all this woman's internal struggles were laid (pardon the expression) to rest by cheating on her husband?! How is this a "love story"?!! The unsung hero of this story was the husband, who supported EVERYONE in his family unconditionally, and who was left out in the cold of NY while his wife romped around in Montana pursuing her own personal "healing". And the ending was just a symphony of contrived ludicrousness! I regret I wasted precious hours of my life on this book.

Book Review: Almost had me
Summary: 1 Stars

This book really almost had me up until the last 50 pages or so. Interesting story, well told, little bit of tragedy, little bit of heartache, little bit of romance, sounds like a good recipe for some light weekend reading. Then the ending! If you don't know it, skip this part, but give me a break! True love conquers all! Even birth control! All is right with the world! All I ask is the semblance of realism. What a load of horse manure (pun most definitely intended.) Waste your time if you dare, but be prepared to discus this book through the window when you've finished.

Book Review: Almost, but not quite, getting it right...
Summary: 4 Stars

This much-discussed first novel takes its form from a notion which gives rise to a great beginning, a good middle, and almost intolerable ending. The maudlin parts of the middle reminded me of (unfortunately) the egregiously sappy "Bridges of Madison County", and the ending was, well, "unnecessarily high flung" is the phrase that comes to mind. My mind conjures the image of an artist who, having created a quite good painting, but having gotten some of the details not quite perfect, attempts salvation (and isn't that a loaded word for describing the ending of this book?) by throwing a big bucket of red paint at the canvas. Mr. Evans shows here that he has the tools, and largely the skills, but not always the knowledge of just how best to use them. But if practice makes perfect, then we may hope for great things to come.

Book Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I put off reading this book for a year after it came out, thinking "What's the big deal?" -- I'm here to tell you, this book is a BIG DEAL. I've never read anything like it. I have never had a book move me to tears as this book did. The author has an excellent descriptive writing style. And the plot twist toward the end caught me totally off guard. Another tear-jerker. The movie version will be interesting. Here's hoping the author is working on another novel as wonderful as his first venture. Kudos
