Book Reviews of The Host: A NovelBook Review: Epic new series for Vampire Author Summary: 4 StarsRenowned for her Vampire love story that began in Twilight it was a bit of a departure with this Sci-Fi offering that's part Stargate part Terminator where the aptly named Wanderer becomes implanted in freedom fighter Mel. Yet instead of letting go Mel mentally fights against Wanderer in order to keep hold of her body so that the two have no choice but to work together to further their co-existance. Wonderfully adaptive, highly interesting and above all a tale that makes you face many questions in much the same way that Stephs other books do. Highly invocative with the discussions between the two principle protagonists (or should that be the singular with it being one body?) and definitely a book to recommend to others that will allow the readers to experience a whole new type of Sci-fi.
Book Review: Soul Survivors Summary: 5 StarsThis is an unusual sci-fi novel in that the souls have succeeded in creating a utopia rather than a dystopia. I really liked the originality of this and the idea of the silver souls being inserted into the brain of humans and making them a more peaceful species.
As far as characterisation goes, Jared and Ian have an awful lot in common with Edward and Jacob from Twilight - roaring, snarling, growling and throwing punches at the slightest provocation. Melanie/Wanda is torn between the two, just like Bella is torn between Edward and Jacob. I think Ian could have done a bit less roaring as we are supposed to see him as a gentle character who appreciates the gentleness in Wanda, rather than a fiery, feisty type like Jared who loves the fierce Melanie.
Another inconsistency was the idea that Wanda could only experience a sense of smell for the first time as a human - what happened to her sense of smell when she was a Bear? Then there is the description of her gorging out the soul from a bear with knife like hands - how does this correlate to the delicate operation she describes to Doc at the end of the text, when you have to feel for the nodule? How would she have done that with knife like bear hands?
Still a compelling read for me because I love all the action phrases and knowing what they look like and do. The ending was perfect - I really hated the idea of Wanda going on to reproduce hundreds of silver souls but die herself so was pleased with the lovely, joyous last chapter.
Book Review: A very captivating read Summary: 4 StarsIt was really quite nice, a tad bit slow on the initial take but once I got through that I found it very very nice....Although there were times it was a little too emotional for me but I'm coming to see that is Meyer's style as I've also read Isabelle and Edward's stories.
It would be interesting to have a sequel to this, considering the way it ended and all, although it just might be pushing it!
All in all, a very good read. Thumbs up!!
Book Review: Amazing Summary: 5 StarsI've heard this book described as "science fiction for people who dont like science fiction" and this is the best way to phrase it i think. I didnt even read the blurb before buying this book as i was in love with the twilight series (hope they dont ruin the origianl books with the film mind you saying that they kind of already ruined it with the last book) and was dying to get my hands on anything else written by this amazing author. Her skill with words make you feel for the characters. I took this book to school and read it at every free moment. It had an envloving plot line full of twists and turns. Some parts of the book do drag on a little bit but the author makes up for it with her fast pace. You find yourself rooting for the charcters and losing track of time as you read. Saying you cant put it down is an understatement. Highly recommended.
Book Review: Can't get enough of this book! Summary: 5 StarsI loooooooove this book...
I've read the first three series of Twilight Saga, and I can't seem to get enough with her writing. I always bought her books as soon they were available in bookstores online or high street.
When I first read the synopsis of this book however, I immediately felt the hatred towards the Wanderer. How could she and the rest of the souls took over humans body just because they thought the human race likes to fight or kill each other. I thought this book won't be as much fun as the twilight series and more ridiculous and illogical beyond comprehension. It took me quite a while before I bought this book (only because I'd finished reading all my novels and need a new novel to help me past through the summer.. *wink*)
And, I was really glad that I was wrong. Yes, the storyline was of course ridiculous and illogical, but in a really good way. It's been a long time since I've cried over something unreal, but this book worth my tears.
I'm one of those who can't live without and-she-lived-happily-ever-after kind of ending, and Meyer did not disappoint me at all. Go Meyer Go! ;)
