Book Reviews of The Host: A NovelBook Review: Disturbing and disappointing Summary: 1 StarsI found this book both dull and disturbing, but not in a good way. At times I found myself open mouthed with disbelief at the way in which women, and in particular teenage girls, were depicted. The author appears to worship teenage beauty and to condone relationships between young girls and older men. The story drags on for 600 or so pages of trite, unoriginal drivel. While it contains a few ideas that might have been interesting in the hands of a more skilled author, Stephenie Meyer appears to lack both maturity and any philosophical or scientific knowledge to give her ideas weight. The result is a book that relies instead on narrow stereotypes - good looking men rescuing beautiful girls, soft hearted, eccentrics etc etc. Even the love stories at its centre lack any emotion and by the end of the book I was still at a loss as to what Melanie and Jared saw in one another beyond physical attraction. I have to say that this is probably the most disappointing and annoying book I have read this year.
Book Review: Sci-Fi... For Those Who Don't Like Sci-Fi? Summary: 5 StarsThat was how the author, Stephenie Meyer, said about The Host. And I can see why.
The Host starts like most SciFi novels. Earth is invaded, and we humans lost. And a new Soul - Wanderer - is implanted into a human body, which will succumbe to her will. But Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Melanie threws memories, feelings, yearns at Wanderer so soon, both Melanie and Wanderer are in love with one man: a rogue human called Jared. And soon, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love. But what do they find when they do finally find him - love or hatred?
Stephenie Meyer - a popular author with her Twilight Saga Twilight (Twilight Saga) - has written a human story about love and lose in a dangerous Sci-Fi genre. And I love it! Bring more on!
Book Review: Yet again Meyer writes a good one Summary: 5 StarsLike many of you out there sci-fi novels aren't really on the top of my list of reading materials, but this is definately one not to be missed. Yet again Meyer has created a fantastic group of characters and a beautiful story of love, prejudice and humanity. Once you put aside your love of Edward and Bella (if you've read the Twilght Saga) you'll find yourself wrapped up in the new world of Melanie and Wanderer that will have you laughing, crying (literally) and waiting for more.
