Book Review: Friendly Tutorial For Learning Frailing Banjo

Probably one of the best banjo tutorial books for people wishing to learn frailing! (Well, in my opinion, anyway!) Patrick Costello starts right at the very beginning with lots of general information, such as an introduction to the banjo parts, how to hold the instrument correctly, and how to tune it, before going on to teach the basic frailing strum in open G chord, and then the first fingered chords of D7 and C. If you don't get any further than that there are many tunes you can play just using those three chords alone! He goes on to introduce tablature, various licks and tricks, scales, time signatures, alternate tunings, etc. Too much to mention, and all presented in a chatty, friendly sort of way - almost like the book is written for you alone!
The book is an A4 sized 'paperback' with 168 pages of information, advice, hints and tips, not to mention tab and words to the verses, with various amusing stories right at the back, in the 'Tao' section. Those of you who have not come across Patrick Costello before can see his tutorial videos on You Tube. They include songs you can find in this book.
I highly recommend this book to get you off to a good start with your frailing - Patrick makes it fun to learn!
