Book Review: A Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a beautifully told story about a young woman's life that blends history and spirituality in a rich landscape of Mexico's ranchland. I thought I was reading fiction until I read the author's notes at the end and realized that it was not a coincidence that his last name was the same as the main character.
Luis Alberto Urrea says in the notes that although he had been working on this story for 20 years, it wasn't until middle age that he was able to bring the wisdom to the story that he needed to finish it. I think I liked it so much because I also feel that I've come to new understandings as I have matured and I believe in a spiritual life that is based on telling the truth and practicing kindness.
The book is about suffering and magic and colorful characters that are profoundly changed by the events of the story.
Beautiful language, beautiful visuals, very beautiful souls!
