Book Reviews of The Hundred Secret SensesBook Review: A spiritual Journey Summary: 5 StarsThe "Hundred Secret Senses" is the first book I have ever read by Amy Tan. I loved this book. I love her humor, the accents that her characters have, and their superstitions. You gain the understanding and knowledge of a culture so rich with traditions for generations. Her writing to me is effortless and natural. The book is personal, spiritual and funny!
I loved this book and have read several other Amy Tan books as a result of loving this book so much. Amy Tan is a truly gifted writer.
Book Review: Wonderful service Summary: 5 StarsThe condition of the book is exactly as described and the service is very good.
Book Review: Chinese Culture Through ABC Eyes Summary: 5 StarsI was steered to this book by an ABC girl (American Born Chinese) because she knew I was interested in Chinese culture, and she thought this book was good. I agree with her; it is a wonderful book, filled with poignant moments and layered thought. Miss Tan is the "thoughtpiece" of ABC. I think she yearns to find an anchor in our melting pot. Like most of us whose family came to America from elsewhere, she seeks to reconnect with her roots, and in doing so, she provides a wonderful window for all of us as Americans, to explore and enjoy the diversity of another culture. Only she can tell her stories to us with a vividness and perspective that so enthralls. She is an excellent writer, and I loved this book. However, I caution the reader to enjoy, but not believe too literally, for most Chinese-born people do not share her Americanized philosophies. Amy is more like us, because she was born here, and that is what makes her so special, and why she is so uniquely equipped to help us share another culture, which is very different from our own.
We might never fully understand the Chinese, but Amy makes us love learning to try. I highly recommend this very lovely book.

Book Review: Strange but Enjoyable Summary: 3 StarsI found this book almost magical and sci-fi like than Amy Tan's other work. But I still found it ejoyable to read.
Its about two sister's , technically half, who were born in seperate country's. Kwan (the oldest) has what she calls "Yin eyes" in which she claims that she can speak to the dead. Olivia who is almost ten years younger finds Kwan humorious, almost repulsive, and hardly gives her a second thought.
Kwan comes to live with her fathers New family in america after he dies. (Sort of his dieing wish to his wife that she bring Kwan to america.) Right from the begining Olivia detestes and almost hates Kwan and her strange ways, even though Kwan raises and becomes like a mother to her. From Olivia's childhood on Kwan tells her stories about her seeing goasts and about her past lives and so on. But as the book goes on Olivia begins to see strange coinsodences in Kwans "past lives" stories.
The book switches between both characters to tell each others life struggles. Olivia's, being her marriage to a man that who can never truly love her and Kwan's, devotion to prove that she has yin eyes and to save Olivia's marriage.
But strangley enough in the end all is not set right and happly ever after. I found that odd but intruging like most of Amy Tan's climaxing twists.
I found this book strange and far fetched to believe, but thats fiction for you. And to all thoes who enjoy fiction, then I truly recomend that you read this wimsical book.
Book Review: Dreaming of the world of yin Summary: 5 StarsThis book was amazing. I finished it in only two days, and I don't regret the sleep I sacrificed. This was beautiful. It was so entertaining, and interesting, and unexpected. I was continually surprised and delighted and saddened and joyous as I turned the pages. The character of Kwan is truly one of the most interesting I've ever encountered. What a delightful journey. Having not read anything by Amy Tan in many years, I'd forgotten just how POWERFUL a writer she is. My dreams have been saturated with the world of yin these last two nights, and I don't imagine these images will be leaving any time soon.
