Book Reviews of The HusbandBook Review: Good Read - Kept me up past my bedtime! Summary: 4 Stars
Good Book. [...] a Dean Koontz book in a while and I wasn't disappointed. It was a nice light read, but there were times that I found myself making faces and my skin crawled. It's a bit disturbing at parts.
The only thing I can say that bothered me was the constant references to trees, plants and flowers. I got that the man was a gardener. It was driven sufficiently into my brain. I didn't need every description of a scene to have a corresponding plant metaphor.
Other than that - worth it. Good summer read.
Book Review: Good With Some Flaws Summary: 3 Stars
I liked this book and it kept me turning the pages but..... I got tired of the author's constant use of comparative language throughout this story, which seemed inconsistent with what the story was really all about: a grippingly tense and seemingly impossible life or death situation. For me, it would have been better to have more dialogue to learn about the characters, rather than the third party perspective. I think you learn more about what motivates them that way, and the book would have flowed better. As it was, I felt like the numerous similes and metaphors distanced me from the characters and, as one reviewer noted, it's not poetry. Just tell the story!
Book Review: Good guys too good, bad guys just right. Summary: 4 Stars
Koontz pens the bad guys just right, but his good guys are just too good.
Before this, I read "The Bad Place". Two different stories, but they feel the same in the end.
Oh well, brilliant escapist stuff. Airplane read. Enjoy it. I did.
Book Review: Good, but not great Summary: 3 Stars
This book was good, it wasn't great. I've been a fan of Koontz for a while now, and while this book was not his best, it wasn't that bad either. For me, I rate a book simply by wether or not I have to "work" to get through it. If the pages fly by (even if I have criticisms of it as a whole) that's good enough for me. This is entertainment after all, not Plato.
For Koontz fans, overall this book should offer no surprises, but no real disappointments either. For people with no Koontz exposure, I'd recommend another of his books first and then come back to this later on... I've only read probably a quarter of his work so far, but my favorite up to now is definately hands-down "Strange Highways" and specifically the title story from that book (it's a compilation of stories).
Book Review: Great Book! Summary: 5 Stars
Thank you for the speedy delivery and for the excellent condition the novel was in. It was a great read, too! Thanks much.
