Book Review: A very good older play in an easy to read format

For anyone who enjoys plays of the 1700s and wishes they were in a more modern, easy-to-read format, this book would be a good find. Dryden's play "The Indian Emperor" is still fun today and his abilities to work dramatic rhyme are remarkable. Suzanne Alexander has taken the play, and added to it illustrations of the time period, and Dryden's "Essay on Dramatic Poesy" that I had not read before. This Essay was left in the old style of writing, and it is slow to get through, but I had not had the opportunity to read it before and so looked at the play a little differently. She also added a few of Dryden's epitaphs and some letters he wrote to the court. From what I understand from the publisher website, there are no royalties to groups to perform this which also supports the goal to preserve these older works. I liked this play. I think it would be appropriate for high school and college level theatre groups.
