For many people, golf is a game of "could've, would've, should've." I could've hit that shot better. I would've hit that shot better if I had done this or that. I should've hit that shot better. Normally, rational people seem to develop unrealistic expectations upon arrival at the golf course. Instead of having fun, they put pressure on themselves to make a certain shot or achieve a particular score. If that doesn't happen, frustration and self-doubt set in. A normally relaxing game becomes a test of self worth. Attempts to fix their golf game often make things worse. In //The Inner Game of Golf//, Timothy Gallwey explains how to identify this mental self-sabotage and how it affects physical performance while playing golf. This book does not present a one-size-fits-all magic formula for suddenly improving your score. The drills and exercises are not designed to help you improve your technique, but to foster awareness of what your body and mind are doing when you hit the golf ball. The goal is to train yourself to focus on living in the moment while you play golf instead of the "could've, would've, should've" narrative that plaques many players before they even hit the ball.
