Book Review: Convoluted rat maze

I usually really like Coben's stand-alone thrillers, as compared to his Myron Bolitar series (nothing against the series-just have never read the books). Coben's books in the past have been exciting, quick reads with quirky twists that tend to surprise me. I like that. But "The Innocent" was too....

3.Too unbelievable
4.Too long
I read the whole thing and kept hoping it would get better - it didn't. It wasn't the worst book I've ever read because Coben still has skill with laying down words but it was a disappointment.
Book Review: DON'T listen to the audiobook!

I have to be honest and say that I haven't quite finished this book yet, but wanted to warn anyone who is thinking of purchasing the audio book of The Innocent. I typically love audio books...they make my 35-minute commute go by so quickly. This one, however, is so over-detailed and TEDIOUS, that I'm tempted to go out and find the hard copy instead of finishing the audio version. I tend to be a skimmer, and this is one book that I would probably skim through at least half of if I had the opportunity. The whole time I'm listening to it I just want to yell "Get on with it!"
The story is okay so far, I guess. From reading the other reviews it sounds like I've already made it through the best part and it's all downhill from here....fabulous. Harlan Coben is not one of my top 10 authors anyway and I'll definitely never make the mistake of trying to listen to one of his books again!

A very good stand along book by Harlan Coben. It has a somewhat complex plot and is very fast paced. The characters are interesting and well developed. There are dead bodies, betrayals, sarcastic humor and plenty of action with twists and turns in every chapter. Lots of surprises as the author keeps you guessing. A very fast, enjoyable read. Looking forward to more stand alone books by this author.
