Book Reviews of The Innocent

Book Review: Enjoy
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved this book. It keeps the attention and although there are many "coincidences" and close escapes from death it makes for good reading. The characters were fully fleshed out as well. It is a page turner, but one with real writing quality. It's my first Coban book and I will definitely be reading others.

Book Review: Everyone and their brother was out to get him
Summary: 3 Stars

Matt Hunter is on the run and confused. He had a good life, a secure job, a lovely wife, a baby on the way, and was closing on a new house when his life fell apart. As a young man, Matt accidentally shot a man and spent four years in prison. When he was released, he swore he would never go back to jail. Suddenly strange pictures showed up on his cell phone, a nun was murdered, and it seemed that everyone and their brother was out to get him. How could he solve the murder and clear his name?

Book Review: Excellent page-turner
Summary: 5 Stars

Matt Hunter's life is changed forever when at a frat party he intervenes in a fight and he kills a man. Instead of the glory years of college as a fotball hero, he spends four years in prison. Nine years go by and he is now married to Olivia, and is a paralegal at a prestigious law firm, a job gotten him by his now deceased brother. Oliva and Matt are very happily expecting their first child. Soon strange events start shattering Matt's peaceful existence. He gets a compromising picture of Olivia with another man on his cellphone, he starts getting followed around town, a man that he meets up with ends up dead. When the death of a nun at a convent is connected to Matt, and the police seem eager to pin the murder on him, he knows he must help himself out of the mess his life is becoming.

Harlen Coben is the master of twists and turns. I was riveted to the story until the very last page. Matt and Oliva are extremely sympathetic characters and you root for their well being. Readers won't be sorry putting time into this book.

Book Review: Fantastic - clearly a 5-star effort
Summary: 5 Stars

Over the last four or five months, my wife has read a number of books from Harlen Coben. With each successive effort, she has sung Coben's praises and strongly encouraged me to give one of his books a try. Having just finished The Innocent, I must say that I should have taken her advice months ago. The Innocent was fantastic - completely captivating and nearly impossible to put down. Coben presents a compelling, complicated, fast paced thriller that keeps the reader guessing until the final few pages. Prepare to stay up too late reading. You should, however, find the sleep deprivation to be worth it.

Book Review: Fast Paced Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

This book starts out with three different stories. Circumstances conspire to put Max Hunter, a decent young man, in prison for four years. Nine years after his release, he is married, expecting his first child and living in New Jersey. In another part of the country, an aging stripper is visited by a young woman who is looking for information concerning her birth mother. Meanwhile, back in New Jersey, A woman detective agrees to help a Mother Superior discover why a recently deceased nun was found to have had breast implants. Coben weaves these stories together for a whopping good read. The pace never lets up. The characters are engaging, and the plot is very well done. I was a little disappointed with Coben's previous novel, Just One Look. But, in my opinion, he has more than redeemed himself with this book.
