Book Review: A little on the nose ...
Summary: 3 Stars
The main story is a decent page-turner, and with a basic premise that merges Lovecraft with Flemming, it's hard to lose. However, the characters are painfully one dimensional, with the protagonist being hardly believable. It's a wonder that someone like Bob could make it out of their parents' basement, much less a career in occult spying. The amount of geek fan service is gratuitous (and occasionally Stross gets the technical details wrong which is especially annoying). The ending has a few too many deus ex machina elements (**spoiler**the Big Bad is more or less hand waved away). Atrocity Archives was better. A Colder War was far better.
