Book Review: A good action-adventure with science woven throughout
Summary: 4 Stars
This is the 2nd book I have read by James Rollins and I will definately be coming back for more. Rollins combines history, science, politics, and a bit of religion to create a terrific action story that keeps you turning pages to find out what will happen next. The characters are well defined and likeable; each is distinct with strengths and weaknesses. The premise of the story was intriguing and I thoroughly enjoyed the two layers working to "solve" the problem - one branch investigated the scientific causes and impacts of the disease, the other followed the history of Marco Polo to also look for causes and cures to the disease. I enjoyed all of the factual information woven throughout the story - information about animals, biology, geography, archaeology, and history to name a few. The descriptions of DNA was a bit tedious at times so I tended to skim over some of those descriptions. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is that the end seemed to have a bit of a supernatural feel to it that I did not enjoy. Overall, this was a wonderful action story!
