Book Review: A waste of $4 and my reading time

Had never read Higgins, but thought I'd give him a try when I saw the hardcover of "Killing Ground" on the bargain rack for a few dollars. The book is just awful. The story is, at best, a C-, but Higgins' writing earns a D-. I'd give him an F, but he deserves a hair more than that just for the effort.
Higgins has no ear at all for dialogue and the prose between the dialogue reminds me of Truman Capote's review of Kerouac's "On The Road": "This isn't writing--it's typing!" His attempts at character development also fall short.
Between the ever-present Bushmill's and the kill shots between the eyes, I just can't take any more and will not be giving Mr. Higgins a second chance.
A final thought: Why does the publisher not see this and assign an editor to work with the author? The story had potential and probably could have been salvaged.
