Book Reviews of The Laramie ProjectBook Review: A powerful work Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't actually read the play, but I just returned from seeing it performed at my daughter's high school. It is a powerful and moving drama, creatively staged with each actor playing a multitude of parts. Nevertheless, the flow is clear, the progression of the story is evident and the powerful emotions build throughout the play. By the final act, I was in tears. It is masterful, don't miss seeing it.
Book Review: A tribute to Matt that is eloquent and true Summary: 5 Stars
Of all the literature that has appeared since the murder of Matt Shepard, this play by Moises Kaufman, et al, is the stand-out best of the field. Many of the published works dealing with Matt's death have a saccharin-like insincerity. They often wallow in self-indulgence. However, "The Laramie Project" stands out as a true, eloquent dramatic experience that moves the reader with the plain truth of the matter. Matt is gone, but our memory of him will always live in works like this.
Book Review: An amazing play! Summary: 5 Stars
My closing night for this play was last night and it was amazing. Playing these character's and watching the audience respond and feeling their energy was amazing. This is a terrific story and very well done. The reactions of the townspeople is so true and you just flow with the story.
Book Review: And Still Nothing Is Changed Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book and still have a hard time believing nothing has changed since this killing has taken place. If you say you are not homophobic than read this book and you will find that we all are in one way or another. Maybe not as bad as those involved in the killing but we are all a little. I believe this book and the DVD of the same name should be required reading in all Middle and High Schools.
Book Review: Clearing misconceptions Summary: 5 Stars
This drama goes past the newscasts and explains more in depth how the Laramie community was affected by this tragedy. Rather than portraying a bunch of "hicks" who were perceived as not caring by the media when the murder occurred, this book explains how most of the citizens of Laramie were affected. This is great in that it goes beyond the murder and looks into the aftermath and how the town was changed by the life and death of one special young man.
