A Whangdoodle is a "fanciful creature of undefined nature," which was also once the wisest, kindest, most fun-loving living thing in the world. That is, until people stopped believing in it. When people no longer believe in the whangdoodle, the the last of the really great Whangdoodles created an enchanted land full of extraordinary creatures from furry Flukes to sly Splintercats to marvelous Whiffle Birds. In the book, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, a professor, the last adult who believes in the whangdoodle, teams up with three children to undertake a journey into Whangdoodleland. The journey though is only possible if everyone involved believes everything they see is real. If they stop believing, they'll be lost and Whangdoodleland will be lost to them. This book teaches the importance of exercising one's imagination and the 30th anniversary edition is exceptionally well done.
The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles is a great book for anyone who loves magical journeys into wondrous places. I haven't had this much fun reading a book since Robert Stanek's Journey Beyond the Beyond.
