Book Reviews of The Life of BirdsBook Review: Absolutely fascinating Summary: 5 StarsThe BBC series had me completelely riveted, and the book seemed a logical extension of my fascination. But it is more than that - it is very readable, and entertaining. It has magnificent glossy pictures, endearing anecdotes and explanations, and should have a place in everyone's library.
Book Review: I loved this book Summary: 5 StarsThis book taught me a lot about books and I really cherish it
Book Review: Fascinating! Summary: 5 StarsThere's interesting information on every page of this book. Atttenborough's text, based on a PBS series (not yet aired at the time of this review, but I can't wait....!) focuses on fascinating bird behaviors and adaptations, and also has an interesting discussion of avian evolution. The beautiful photographs are appropriately placed to illustrate the various species and topics discussed. Highly recommended!
Book Review: An indispensable book for any bird lover Summary: 5 StarsAs someone who has had a lifelong fascination with birds, I bought this book more for the photographs than anything else. After all, I knew everything about them already, right? Well, boy, was I put in my place! I learned things about these enigmatic creatures that I never would have imagined. One of the reasons this book is so enjoyable is the fact that Mr. Attenborough makes his own awe at the sheer wonder that birds are readily apparent, rather than speaking from the lofty heights of so many of his contemporaries. It's almost as if he is sharing his journey with the reader, and the two are making these discoveries together. And the hundreds of color photographs are incomparable, almost heartbreaking in their beauty. To make a long story short: if you love birds, then you MUST have this book. Period. Thanks, Mr. Attenborough!
