The first volume of Norman Sherry's three-part biography into the life of Graham Greene provides the reader with an enthralling insight into how a young boy became the man he was.It offers explanations as to how a shy and sensitive youth who disliked sports, played truant from school so he could read adventure stories - literary works which had a deep influence and helped shape a writing style.
If you ever wondered why the novelist consistently returned to the themes of betrayal and treachery in his books, then Sherry's work highlights the moments of torment through being the headmaster's son; junctures which shaped the character and personality of a young boy.
Encouraged to write by an analyst after suicide attempts, the reader of this biography is led through the amazing tale of an intelligent boy's journey from his youth to manhood.
