Book Reviews of The Light BeyondBook Review: More Detailed Accounts of Life after Death Summary: 5 Stars
"The Light Beyond" is even more exciting than Dr. Raymond A Moody's "Life after Life." In this book Dr. Moody begins by describing the nine traits common to all NEDs. He then explores the area of childhood near-death experiences. I was amazed at how well the children could describe their experience, using words like luminescence. There are also many questions answered by Dr. Moody. Some of the questions include:
Are NDEers really dead?
How do NDEs affect the suicidal?
Do NDE's appear in literature?
Are there negative NDEs that include hellish experiences?
Perhaps the most interesting section (beside the personal accounts of the NDE) was the section that compared NDEs to forms of mental illness. After reading those chapters I'm even more convinced that near-death experiences are not a form of mental illness.
There is a fascinating chapter on near-death researchers, which gives an idea of how these individuals view the experience and why they decided to conduct research on this subject. This book is highly compelling and it is possible to just sit down and read it cover to cover without a break. It is that good.
If you love reading about NDEs here is my list of favorite finds:

Book Review: More Speculative Than His Previous Books Summary: 4 Stars
This book is more speculative than Moody's previous books, but I enjoyed it much more than them perhaps because of that reason. There is little that is new in this book, although he does discusee some additional topics. For example, he defends NDE research as valid against certain critics. he refutes quite easilt Carl Sagan's absurd attempt to related NDE's as engrams from the birth experience and demonstrates that there are no known psychoactive drugs that produce similar symptoms to NDE's in subjects (he places particular emphasis on ketamine for some reason). It makes a good companion to the other books, and I found ot to be more interesting, but it is hard to know what else one has to say after the first two books. Many people seem to have NDE's, and they are hard, if not impossible to explain away using traditional understandings of the world, but what else is there to be said? Interesting book, but I am not sure how much farther near death studies can be taken . . .
Book Review: My Fav. NDE Books - I've Been There Too Summary: 4 Stars
One day in 1995 I died, and had a NDE. Ever since then, I've been reading everything I can on the subject. According to most stories I've read, I had an unusual one, not going down a tunnel, but experiencing many interesting phenomena all the same. It seems to me that there are some NDE books and magazine articles that are just hype, and published just to give recognition. I have found, through my many years and multitudes of books on the subject, that there is an underlining truth and spirit that pervades the true experiences. So, I have compiled a list of my best reads for NDE books - ones that I consider genuine and adding validating light to the personal NDE experience. I have left out compilations, these are personal narratives. I hope you enjoy them too.
