Book Review: "Do you have your gun?"

This is the second book by Tana French I've read this year. I picked this up on the strength of In The Woods. There was a quality to French's writing that put it a cut above other mysteries I've been reading.
And the language is still quite nice in The Likeness, as are the characters.
I have two issues with the book. These make it, for me, not quite as good as the last.
One issue is that the plot felt unbelievable. I got over that-- mostly, eventually-- but not fully. The resemblance between the two women asked too much of a disbelief suspension for me.
The second issue has to do with Cassie. It seems as though she never has an ordinary day or an ordinary case. Everything strikes her so close to the bone I wonder how she manages toast. If you don't read the two books as close to each other as I did, this will probably bother you less.
Still, a cut above for entertainment value. I'd probably really give it 3.5 stars, but am giving it 4 for the promise and the talent.
