When is the Spanish version coming? My mom who lives in Argentina will be delighted to read it... I can see you taking her by her arm (literally speaking), taking her through narrow passages and dark corners, telling her "her" story in a way that she can see it in your eyes... the story of your lost who are, in a way, her own lost. And now that I think, they are my lost too.
On the other hand, I wonder why do business with the Holocaust. I know there is no other way but still...
And last, on page 233, I wonder if Meg didn't remember anything about Bronia not only because Bronia was just a little girl, but, because we people are not really used to keep memories of our neighbours, we don't really pay attention to them; they are invisible. "Indiference", I would say. That's the word. But I haven't read that word yet in your book (I haven't finished it yet, so maybe it's there). Indiference is one of the feelings I would like you to explore. If I knew my neighbour will die tomorrow, I will probably not be as indiferent as I am, I will probably ask him a couple of questions, try to remember a couple of things about him. But we tend to think of neighbours as people who are just there. Why care? I am surprised that the people whom you interviewed actually kept memories about their neighbours and friends. I don't remember my high school friend's parents, for instance. It is amazing that your interviewers did. Even a little glimpse, a short sentence. That's amazing what they could remember.
