Book Review: What happened here??
Summary: 2 Stars

I read this book because I loved most of the other books. I was soo disappointed, though. I'll never read it again. Artemis just doesn't seem like Artemis. He doesn't talk the same, or even really think the same. Butler's lost his charm as well. I laughed once throughout the entire book (which is pretty freakin sad considering it's not hard to make me laugh) and that was only because someone said something $tupid. Though these books were really written for 9-12 yr olds, i always thought Artemis was hilarious, as well as Butler. Anyway, this books was BORING. very, very boring. after about half way through this 4oo pg book, I remember thinking "Are you kidding me? we're already *half* way through and nothing interesting has happened???", and i kept waiting for it to get funnier, or more interesting, etc. well, it didn't. I pretty much hated 12 year old Minerva's character, and Artemis' constantly made obvious attraction to her was just annoying. Even the end battle was boring as heck. Holly isn't funny anymore, and doesn't have any charm to her anymore, either. which is a shame because she was my favorite character. I won't bother reading the next book. I wish i hadn't read this one, either. it kind of tainted the whole series for me. I'd prefer remembering it how it used to be, where any age could enjoy it, but now it seems only a 9-12 yr old could enjoy it..

Book Review: Artemis as a good guy makes for a great book!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Artemis Fowl books have continued to be a great series to read. For some reason I always start reading these books with a bit of reluctance because they are, after all, kids books. A few pages into the book though I am always hooked again; this continues to be the case.

In this book Artemis calculates that the time warped island that demons live on is slowly unraveling. He is attempting to prove his calculation by detaining a time warped demon. With a demon as proof he is hoping that fairykind will take him seriously and take action to save the demon race. When he shows up at the next demon appearance he finds that he is not he only one who has made calculations about demon appearances. A girl Artemis's age, name Minerva, kidnaps the displaced demon in hopes of completing research on the demon and hopefully winning the Noble Prize. Of course everyone's plans end up collapsing and chaos ensues.

The book is action packed and non-stop intellectual fun from the beginning to the end. The new characters introduced are wonderful. Minerva is the perfect female counterpart to Artemis and No.1, who revels in his new found English vocabulary, is a hoot. The whole gang is back and ready to deliver. Holly is in for a lot of action and Foaly has a whole new bag of tricks in his hands..er...I mean hoofs. Artemis is taking his turn as a "good guy" seriously and his new outlook on life really endears him to the reader. The addition of Minerva as a possible love interest is very interesting. Finally Artemis has someone to laugh at quark jokes with.

This is another fun book that further enhances the Artemis Fowl series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Book Review: "Your first lengthy conversation with a girl your own age"
Summary: 4 Stars

This new book in the Artemis Fowl series succeeds at moving the story forward and introducing some new and important elements. As if it was not enough with all the different magical creatures, such as fairies, elves, goblins and dwarves, now we get to meet demons and warlocks. These two species are also associated with quantum leaps in time and space, which introduces a level of complexity in the plot that is hard to grasp. Trying to understand the logic behind this process will prove to be challenging to say the least, and Colfer says it clearly in his own words: "Time quandaries such as these should be forgotten for the sake of sanity". Following this advice will allow for a more enjoyable read.

The aspect of the plot that I found to be revolutionary and enthralling in this book has to do with the introduction of the character of Minerva. She is a female version of Artemis, a couple of years younger but with a similar level of intelligence and resourcefulness for obtaining what she wants. When Minerva crosses paths with Artemis in their mutual search for a demon, hidden emotions arise and sparks fly all around. Holly and Butler will naturally take part in the events that unfold, as will Minerva's dangerous and unstable bodyguard.

This installment is not as fast-paced as some of the previous ones and the fact that Mulch only has limited participation in the story, as does Foaly, reduces the opportunities to introduce the usual humor we have come to expect from this series. The book is nevertheless interesting and fans of the series will definitely have a good time.
