Book Reviews of The Lost Colony (Artemis Fowl, Book 5)

Book Review: disappointed...
Summary: 3 Stars

I waited a ong time until I got around to reading this, and I can't say I made a mistake. I finished it in one read, but closed the book still feeling slightly miffed. The originality that Colfer is known for seems to fade a bit.

I never laughed aloud in this book, and even though the plot was interesting enough (though I admit it was rather strange that these "demons" were never mentioned earlier on, seeing how they are so important. Or were they? Forgive me, I can't recall.) I found that there were places where I was skimming through, and not out of excitement but out of boredom.

The worst part of all I'm afraid is, the new chara. I've been waiting for a female chara and I assume so were many others. But...Minerva doesn't cut it. Because of this one chara alone, Colfer adds himself to the stereotype pile for fantasy stories. Imagine a blond princess who is beautiful and genius. Make her french, and you get Minerva. Why do authors have such a problem creating females to compliment the males? Someone who makes them curious, confused and does more than make their hormones tingle. -_-

I've noticed this in many "best selling" books and I'm afraid it reminds me of a movie more than a book. It's sad when movies create books instead of books that create movies. It's possible that Colfer will introduce another girl right? Not really...the stereotypical story has but one girl normally, because a new one might cause conflict and actually involve a relationship. If he had stayed with adventures and avoided hormones, I wouldn't have felt like i was reading another author.

If you like fantasy stories, and you dont really care who loves who, then it shouldn't disappoint. Apparently I desire to much creativity, not in fantasy creatures, but in humans.

Book Review: Wow...just wow.
Summary: 5 Stars

I read half of this book at a friend's house. That was six months ago.
When i re-read it several weeks ago, I was shocked. The quality of the writing is awe inspiring. The plot is well written. There are so many shockers that...wow.
I never expected how good this would be.
I loved the ending.
Can't wait for the next one!

Book Review: Great Series
Summary: 5 Stars

The Artemis Fowl series is really fun. I bought the first book (Artemis Fowl) and took a chance - it sounded fun. It hooked me and I read the rest as soon as I could order them. Now I just have to wait for the next one! Very imaginative story lines - I love the LEP recons!

Book Review: It was a gift
Summary: 2 Stars

I did not read the book. I was unhappy with the amount of time needed to get the book delivered. Amazon usually does a better job of prompt delivery.

Book Review: Non-stop read
Summary: 5 Stars

Both my boys (11 & 14) LOVED this book. They love the whole series. Each in turn read it all the way through, not doing anything else except schoolwork until they were through.
Thank you, I love seeing my kids read!
