Book Reviews of The Lost Daughters of ChinaBook Review: Great informative book with heart and facts about adopting in China. Summary: 5 StarsThis book is very easy to read if you are thinking of adopting or are adopting from China. It is full of information on chinese culture, the adoption process, and what may happen after you get back home. Some parts brought tears to my eyes, but I am a bit sappy. I would recommend this book to people adopting, thinking of adopting from China, or those who have already adopted. It really gives a lot of information on Chinese history and why so many little baby girls are abandoned shortly after birth. My heart goes out to all the lost daughters and I hope they are all given the chance to find a forever family.
Book Review: ten thousand stars Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of those rare books that I can't praise highly enough. I won't summarize it because others have done so.
I read this book without knowing much about the issues. I have no background or personal experience with Chinese adoptions. In fact, I thought all abandoned Chinese girls found adoptive homes. I knew about the birth limits, and that boys were preferred because they support their parents, but that was it.
But yesterday I heard about half the sky foundation, and I decided to read this book. It really shows why parents are desperate enough to abandon their infants, and the pain of the mothers, which I hadn't considered. It also shows the tragic consequences of valuing girls so little in some parts of the world. I am glad that Kelly is happy in her home and I hope that many other girls are also happy.
One thing Karin says often is that the girls will write their own stories when they are old enough...I look forward to reading them.
Book Review: A must read for those thinking about a Chinese adoption Summary: 5 StarsThis book was an excellent resource. I am a year away from beginning the adoption process and this book convinced me that a Chinese adoption was a perfect fit. Evans is honest and up front in this book. It also has historical information on China's social policies that have led to the abandonment of so many little girls.
Book Review: Not just for adoptive parents Summary: 5 StarsKarin Evans not only does a wonderful job of describing the adoption process in China, she gives some great insights into the effects of China's One Child Policy and the status of women in China.
Book Review: Considering adopting from China? Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a fairly quick read and gives you a foundation on the culture if you are considering adopting from China. After reading this book, I was even more determined to adopt a child from China.
