Book Reviews of The Lost Daughters of China

Book Review: Easy to read but very informative
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book a few months back and am now loaning it out. I was amazed how the author was able to keep you wanting to read on while giving lots of information on China's policies on children and the way women are viewed. She also gives a glimpse into adopting a child overseas and the childs perspective of living in a foreign country. I do have to say that I did not finish the last few chapters as I felt it was just the same information over and over again but I loved the first 3/4 of this book. A must read if you are adopting a child from China, or anywhere really, or if you are just going to visit China.

Book Review: The Lost Daughters of China
Summary: 3 Stars

Karen Evans writes about her own experiences while adopting a baby Chinese girl from China. It was interesting to learn there are a great number of physical, emotional and financial stresses involved when adopting a child from China. I got the sense that she was a strong advocate for adoption as she discribed repeatedly how much love she felt towards her two adopted daughters. It seems as though she did a lot of research on the topic of adoption and conducted many interviews as she quotes other families that went through similar challenges. It's a touching story however, the last half of the book gets a little repetitious and boring as she imagines and frets over what the Chinese mothers might have felt. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but would not recommend reading it unless you want to adopt a child.

Book Review: As the father of a newly adopted Chinese daughter, this book is Fantastic!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are remotely interested in adopting from China, or have an interest in the the policies of China and their view of girls, this is a must read book. My wife and I recently returned from China where we adopted the most precious beautiful angel. This book outlines the gut wrenching agony of mothers who do not want to give up their daughters, their struggles and their frustration with the China policies. It also follows a family from San Francisco as they wait and wait for the process to happen and they joy the experience as they receive their child.

Book Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is excellent for anyone who is considering adopting a little girl from China. Not only does it tell about the author's personally adoption stories but it give a great deal of facts and information about China and it's policies. I was amazed at the amounto of information. Most of these stories about international adoption are touching and emotional. This book had a little of everything. A must read!

Book Review: leaves you wondering
Summary: 2 Stars

I just finished this book and after about the 10th time of hearing about there not being enough girls to match the quota of young men in China I began to wonder if the author was for or against adoption from China. According to her there will be a war breaking out when these boys grow up and have no girls to marry. I really liked the book at first - but the repetition got old and harder to read about midway through.
