Book Review: A Gay Romance
Summary: 4 Stars
I expected better based on the reviews I read. However, the reviews were fairly accurate in describing this book as a gay romance written fairly similarly to heterosexual formulae for this genre of novel. The writing was spotty but I rated the novel a '4' because it was very interesting and a fairly well-written page-turner.
The novel is about Philip, a young gay man who's very dependent on his lover, Elliot, who ends up leaving him. Philip's parents are Rose and Owen. Owen is a closet homosexual. Their characterizations are rather pat. Rose seems most real though it's hard to relate to her response to finding out that both her son and husband of 27 years are gay.
The bedroom scenes are steamy and well-written. The book hold real promise for works to come.
