Book Reviews of The Lovely BonesBook Review: Compelling read Summary: 5 Stars
I came across this book at my parents' house when I was there for Sunday dinner sometime last year. I only intended to read the first few pages, to get a feel for whether or not I wanted to borrow the book when Mom was done reading it ... but I couldn't put it down! I ended up taking the book home with me that night and staying up til I had read the whole thing. I simply couldn't leave the story untold.
Excellent read. Opens your imagination to the possibilities of what *might* be ...
Book Review: Deeply Disturbing Summary: 3 Stars
The novel's premise is interesting: Teenaged Susie is raped and murdered on her way home from school, and watches the effect that her life and death have on her family. The novel really drives home the brutal truth about what murder does to a victim's family: that there IS no "closure", ever.
I kept reading because I hoped that, at the least, Susie's murderer would be brought to justice or perhaps her remains found; this doesn't happen, and what she knew has her family slowly disintegrates.
The book drives home the brutality of murder, especially on young victims, and effectively portrays the pain suffered by loved ones...but I found it so disturbing that I really wish I hadn't read it.
Book Review: Dissapointing Summary: 2 Stars
This book was rather disturbing. It's hard to read about murder from the perspective of the 14 year-old victim. It was thought-provoking, but I found it to be lacking something. Once I figure out what that is, I will update this review.
Book Review: Distubingly Fascinating Summary: 5 Stars
The Lovely Bones sucked me in from the very first page. It is not a particularly pleasant subject, but is disturbingly fascinating. The writing is compelling and I would highly recommend this book. I could not put it down!
Book Review: Disturbing and sweet. Summary: 4 Stars
It's a good story with a complex web of emotions and characters. It hooks you early and drags you through. The ending is satifying and endearing.
