Book Review: Fantastic and Couldn't Be Put Down
Summary: 5 Stars

My grandmother gave me this book for Christmas almost 5 years ago. I had tried a few times to read it, but just couldn't get into it. When I read that it was being made into a movie, I decided I should read it. Since being given the book, my grandmother (who was my favorite person on earth) passed away. Her death was sudden, and I had never really coped with it. I had cried, but I still always have the "wow, she would love this," or the "what would she suggest" thoughts running through my mind. The point is, I think this book helped a little. It's just simply an amazing book. I was intrigued and haunted by the sentence "My delicious death moan." Sebold pairs words and phrases in ways that I never thought possible. Even if you haven't lost someone very dear to you, you will still love this book. I finished it in a day, and could have kept reading. I had read "Lucky" while in high school, and loved it as well. While very different, this book is just as wonderful.

Book Review: Favorite besides Irving
Summary: 5 Stars

Christmas reminds me of this book, because I read it 2 years ago during the Christmas shopping season and I carried it from store to store;literally did not want to put it down.To this day, the story stays with me. I was initially afraid to read this book, knowing the subject matter. I was afraid of how I would feel. Instead, I felt somehow uplifted. I loved the characters and the empathy the author derived. I gave this book to many as a gift, because it touched my heart. There is no synopsis I can make.I could see the whole family,as if I too, were "watching" from heaven. Alice Sebold captured something very special in this book;I highly recommend it. Be not afraid.

Book Review: GREAT book especially for teen readers
Summary: 5 Stars

I thought this book was great. It's very well written and gives you a lot of insight on life and everything involved in it. It's a great read that I could not put down. I reccomend giving it a chance, its a very good book!

Book Review: Good start, disappointing ending
Summary: 3 Stars

I just finished reading this book and I have do admit that I was quite disappointed with how Sebold chose to develop what began as a brilliant and intriguing novel. At first, I was completely immersed in the story - and yes, the book is a page turner for about the first 150 pages. Then, towards the middle Sebold starts losing my attention as she focuses on the rather dull and seemingly boring lives of the people left behind on earth. As hard as Sebold attempts to develop these characters' experiences in their "post-Susie" lives, she never hits a nerve or any true depth with any of them. And this is why they never take on a real existence and remain "fictional" characters throughout the book. (In my opinion good fiction is when it reads as if it were non-fiction. That's when the author succeeded in writing a bestseller).

Now really, I could not see the point of the next 100 pages. Yawn. But then comes the kicker: When I got to the part where Susi enters her friend Ruth's body I found myself throwing my hands up in the air in disbelieve: this book took a definite turn for the worst and actually managed to enter the cheese-ball cemetery where master pieces such as the movie "Ghost" have been laid to rest in my mind - for a good reason. Why oh why, Alice Sebold? This book had so much potential and now I could care less if it ended up at the bottom of that sinkhole next to Susi Salmon's body...

Book Review: Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

The book was beautiful and sad. It felt like you were reading this girl's diary of her innermost thoughts and emotions. The end was perfect. I highly recommend this book.
