Book Reviews of The Lovely Bones

Book Review: SNOOZE....BORING....BLAH
Summary: 1 Stars

This book was incredibly boring. Susie dies and looks down upon her incredibly boring life. Yawn. I could not care less about any of the characters. I absolutely could not believe my eyes reading all the praises stamped all over the book. Were they reading the same book as I was?

Book Review: Sebold is genius and this story is amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

Somehow, THE LOVELY BONES is both haunting and beautiful at the same time. Alice Sebold has crafted a delicate tale of death and the after-life, as told by a young murdered girl observing her family's grief and the hunt for her killer from the heavens. It spans so many genres and should be a moving read for most readers. For a more traditional mystery that is also extremely well-written while dealing with the kidnap, rape and murder of a young girl, try Martha Powers' DEATH ANGEL. It focuses on the struggle of a mother to find her daughter's killer among a close-knit community that is suddenly full of suspects.

Book Review: THe Lovely Bones
Summary: 4 Stars

For my book review, I read the book The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. This is a book about a girl named Susie Salmon, who is raped and murdered. The book explains what Susie's family goes through and how they try and figure out who did it. It also tells you about how Susie deals with being in heaven and what it is like. I had a few favorite parts to this book. One part is when Susie sees her grandfather again in heaven. This is a good part because I know if I was her, I would want the comfort of being with someone I knew. Another favorite part of mine is when Mr. Harvey dies believe it or not. This is because he has finally been punished for everything he has done, even if he doesn't spend time in jail. Plus, no one finds his body, that we know of, and that what makes it a little meaner. I would recommend this book to certain people. While it is a extremely inspirational story, some people can't get over the fact that she does get raped and murdered in the beginning and it is very graphic and may be disturbing. In my option, that isn't what the author is trying to get across to us, it is much deeper. It is true that it is a sad book because of what Susie and her family have to go through, and it might make you cry. This book also make you think a lot, especially about heaven and what it would be like. I really enjoyed reading The Lovely Bones.

Book Review: That's Really 2 1/2 Stars
Summary: 3 Stars

This book started off terrifically. It had everything: terror, bittersweet sadness, anger, beauty. Then it eventually fell apart with the inclusion of the sister and boyfriend story, which was just icky. It left a bad taste.

Book Review: The Lovely Bones
Summary: 5 Stars

Susie Salmon was only fourteen when she was murdered in the nearby cornfield by her house. She had a younger sister named Lindsey and a younger brother named Buckly and two loving parents. Susie is trying to tell her parents who killed her by giving them hints whenever they get close to the man but for some reason the wont listen. It breaks her heart as she watches her family and her killer go one without her. "Mr. Harvey started to press his lips against mine." "They were wet blubbery and i wanted to scream but i was too afraid and too exhausted from the fight." "Mr. harvey soon grew tired of me pleading with him so he reached into the pocket of my parka and balled up the hat that my mother had made me, and he smaches it into my mouth." "The only sound after that was the weak tinking of the bells."
This book is a mystery book and it has a lot of suspense. As Susie tells the story of how she was murdered she uses many different flash backs from when it happened to how her family is dealing with her being dead to how she was dealing with herselve in haeven and adjusting to her new life. the theme og the book was to show you how you would feel if someone was to kill someone in your family and how you would learn how to cope with it and if you would be able to move on with your life or not. it also wants you to be able to forgive that person some day even if you really didn't want ot no matter what god forgives so why can't we is the questuion that I ask. I think that anyone that likes to read for long periods of a time this is a good book for you to read because once you start you wont be able to put it down. The book keeps you interested and you never get bored ypou just want to hurrry up and get to the next chapter to see what is going to happen next. i think that the author did an excellent job on writing this book because for one she used a lot of details and expressed how everyone felt after thay learned that Susie had really died. She also tells the story in differnet ways while Susie is telling what she is doing in heaven she also tells how her parents are doing without her. The lead of the story was when Susie started telling how she was raped and then how her killer murdered her. The conclsion of the story was when they found out what had really happened to her and that her killer had killed-- someone before her.
