Book Reviews of The Magic Circle

Book Review: A waste of time and money.
Summary: 1 Stars

Like many others who have commented, I had expected another intriguing and exciting book, similar to The Eight. I was sadly disappointed and can't believe I actually read the entire book. The cast of characters are without substance, the myriad myths and legends came across as many loose ends and the family tree - forget it!

Book Review: A world united by love?
Summary: 5 Stars

I read an interview where Katherine Neville said that The Magic Circle was about transformation, but I think it does a great job of comparing world religions and showing us what we all have in common, in a world that sometimes seems so filled with anger and hatred. What she seems to think we have in common is love. I for one would like to believe she is right.

Book Review: ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS YOU COULD READ
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was bought by my sister, who immediately bought copies for all seven women in our family. It is a wonderful story, not escapist at all. When you put this down, you will want to pick up the next Katherine Neville book immediately, because no one else is writing stories like this today. I have always been interested in the role women play in history, and this book well tell you things you will love to hear. It is about time someone figured these things out and had the courage to share them with the world. The heroine is one of my favorite characters. I just wish I could meet her in person. I am going to buy seven copies of the book and give them away, that's how much I love the Magic Circle.

Book Review: ANCIENT MYSTERIES
Summary: 5 Stars

The Magic Circle was the first book by Katherine Neville that I read, and now, having gone back to read her earlier works, I still think it is the best. I see there is quite a fan club out there for The Eight and some people who think A Calculated Risk is better. I have to hand it to her. She weaves a complex web in so many areas of expertise. But I prefer Magic Circle due to the ancient historical parts in which she clearly knows her stuff. The book is also extremely fast-paced if you are inclined, as I am, to read a book straight through and not try to over examine it. Highly recommended for the discerning reader.

Book Review: AT LAST A BOOK FOR GROWN-UPS
Summary: 5 Stars

I think grown-ups need to be entertained as much as children do. Finally, a book that makes you think while providing hours of edge-of-the-seat entertainment. The heroine, Ariel Behn, is a nuclear security expert, and the humor and upbeat patter that go with her view of her job are not to be missed. Some readers seem to have had trouble sorting through the family relationships, but I really can't see why. Ariel's family are much easier to sort out than the Herods and the Caesars, who were real historical figures. Besides, Neville recaps it all for us nicely several times along the way - for those who are reading, not just skimming. Highly recommended for the intelligent reader.
