Book Review: Books we just can't stop reading

I read "The Eight" some years ago for the first time. As of the publication of "The Magic Circle" I was on my 12th reading of her book. Sometimes I feel it difficult to move from Neville's books to another by other authors because I feel a significant drop in quality. I have gone through at least six paperback copies of "The Eight". Some have been read into tatters and the others I have gladly given away to friends with the requirement that they read her fantastic story. My husband was also intrigued with her book as he is an avid and well versed chess player. He, himself, has read "The Eight" about four or five times. I just finished "The Magic Circle" in paperback and I am about to start my second reading. I am so grateful that she has put her stories down for the rest of the world to share.Book Review: Breaking through the cliches about evil

This book is a good mystery novel. It also makes you reexamine your ideas about evil. Particularly in the context of the first- and twentieth- century experiences of genocide. Evil, like the incest in this book, is not what it seems. You can't excape dealing with it on a personal level of conscience. And there is no comfort in the appearance of success, either. The Magic Circle is absolutely brilliant in its connections between history, mythology, multi-cultural religion and the exciting plot. Full appreciation of this book requires knowledge more diverse than most of us can claim (myself included), and the many story lines are almost impossible to follow. The Magic Circle is like a beautifully written sentence that has just so many words that you don't know what it said when you get to the end. But don't give up on Katherine Neville! Go back to The Eight. It's the best book I ever read!Book Review: Cerebral Magic

I absolutely recommend The Magic Circle to anyone who loves to use his brain. I'm a mathematician, and while I loved her earlier two books, I'd have to agree with the other reviewers that this one, with all the brain twisters, is far and away Neville's best. Exciting and mentally stimulating at once. Highly recommended
