Book Reviews of The Magus

Book Review: One of the most astonishingly powerful books I have read
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book ten years ago and could not bear to put it down. Even now I still remember being shaken to the core at the emotions it stirred in me. I'm writing these comments just before buying a copy so I can re-visit it. If you like novels that combine exquisite use of the English language with an extraordinary dissection of the male psyche, you'll do yourself a favour by reading this.

Book Review: Very high on my list of 'best books'
Summary: 5 Stars

This is NOT the kind of book to read on the bus. It will occupy your thoughts, play with your perceptions and leave you thinking. Every chapter is a surprise, to the extent that you feel that the author is playing with you. This is the kind of book you will want to read again every few years, to feel again how strongly a book can influence your feeling. I have never read a book that played with my conceptions as well as this book did. A real experience....Enjoy.

Book Review: A Remarkable Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This book really blew me away. The whole premis of the book was trickery, throught the main character is tricked, and all along so is the reader. When we read a book we expect it to follow rules, we expect to learn all its secrets at the end, this book breaks those rules and just just its own thing, and does it very very well.

Rarely have I read anything that can affect me so much, There would be days where I would stop reading it because I almost feared the spooky mood it put me in. It is just a weird, strange book that I know I will read again several times again in the future. Kinda like Jean Pual Sartre but witha plot.

Book Review: Narcissus & Echo....
Summary: 4 Stars

I loved this book and incidentally- I loved reading all the reviews too though I must disagree with the reviewer who said women would hate it! Yes, its about a terribly self indulgent young middle class boy who thinks with his sex organs while dressing his reasons up in poetry and angst. But its also about the way life tricks you and hauls your ego through the mires and muck of those self constructed fantacies. Its about the painful truths and the even more painful lies, Coupled with some wonderful and evocative scenes of greece. After reading this book, you and the world around you are changed forever.

Book Review: This book has more twists than a corkscrew...
Summary: 5 Stars

I first read this book when I was 15 and unprepared for something so emotional, evocative and disturbing. The reader is constantly lured into a false sense of security, taking everything at face value until the narrator is left as bewildered as the reader. It is a book to share with the narrator- he is a poor fool, and you cannot help but love to hate him. Bask in the warmth of the Greek sunshine, over and over again... I have over 30 times now, and I continue to pick out fresh angles and interpretations each time.
