I bought this book on the strength of the Dvorak book in the same series which I was really happy with. The problem with this one is that it is simply a description of the Mahler Symphonies, basically what plays where and what it may represent.
I was expecting something that explored the structure of the music and dealt with Mahler's expressive and aesthetic motivations. Rather than a blow by blow account of what instrument plays when. So if you want something along the lines of what I was hoping for I'd explore the Mitchell books about Mahler which seem to cover Mahler from this angle.
