I don't think I've ever read anything quite like this book, and it firmly
held my attention. Shaun Ellis became so involved with wild/captive wolves
that his life revolved around theirs. It would be very interesting to read
his story about ten years from now, and find out where it goes next.
His involvement with the wolves is like the passion of an artist or other
person who pursues something they care about so much that they do some
starving. He has done that, and the book tells about it.
Ellis has done television and I saw him on a cable channel just today. He
was coaching a human female with the wolves, and she got hurt. In the book
he tells some about the many, many injuries he has received from
interacting with wolves. He says it is normal for them to bite as part of their
communication. He has also been knocked unconscious many times.
The book discusses some relationship between dogs and wolves, but it's not
very specific about how to choose or handle a dog. It stresses that the
choice of the right dog and the right handling of the dog are critical. That
is certainly true.
Ellis is a fascinating man, and the experiences in the book are truly
absorbing to read about. If you have an interest in wolves, you will find this
book riveting.
