Book Review: "A Latter day Huck Finn Tale"

This is a wonderfully parodic view, not of war itself, but of the various characters who are swept along or aside by Sherman's March. In the midst of all this blood and gore, all properly noted, Doctorow's sex scenes are a particularly burlesque addition to this epic novel.
More than anything, Doctorow's novel reminds me of a latter-day Huck Finn tale. All are on an epic journey; there are unscrupulous pretenders as well as saints along the dangerous road to peace and freedom.
In total, I heartily recommend this historical fiction about Sherman's March that manages a surprisingly humorous touch.
