Book Reviews of The Master Cleanser: With Special Needs and ProblemsBook Review: A must have for anyone even thinking about trying a cleanse or fast Summary: 5 Stars
I think it's great that S.B. kept this book short and simple. I've paid more for greeting cards than I paid for this book yet I get so much more out of it.
The internet is full of descriptions and interpretations of how to do the Master Cleanse. The problem is that most of these descriptions and even supposed online free copies have slight alterations. I've done this cleanse about 7 times and still use the booklet to refresh my memory to make sure I do it correctly and haven't forgotten or confused measurements, timing, allowed and not-allowed variations etc. I don't count the first time I attempted to do it because I didn't have the booklet yet and ended up failing because the online instructions I read turned out to be wrong. The slight difference in that person's take on things turned out to make a huge difference. Once I got the book, my first real master cleanse was a fabulous success.
Get the book and know for sure the real way to do the Master Cleanse without other people's opinions injected on how they think it can be improved or modified, etc. If you ever decide to try a modified version of it, that's fine too, but at least you will know what is the Master Cleanse and what is something else that was inspired by it.
PS: in case you don't understand the instructions to drink water in the book, drink lots of it! I find I have the best results if I do not count saltwater, tea, or lemonade toward my daily water intake and pretty much drink one or more glasses of water for every glass of lemonade I drink. My one complaint about this book is that this is not stressed enough and a person might miss mention of water and assume that drinking all those lemonades means they won't need water or may think that drinking any water at all is just optional.
Book Review: A new beginning Summary: 5 Stars
I've cleansed three times this year. After the second one, I had my annual physical. Not only did it reveal spectacular results in terms of cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure, but I dropped two dress sizes and my skin has visibly improved. My doctor was actually shocked at the difference between a few years ago and now.
People preach that this is not primarily a weight-loss diet, and they're right; if you don't commit to maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly after you finish cleansing, you defeat the purpose, and any weight lost may return quickly (your metabolism tends to slow with reduced caloric intake). However, if you let this cleanse serve as a health-building, confidence-boosting jump-start to a completely new lifestyle, you can have the best of both worlds. The great way I feel, as well as the desire to keep off the 31 pounds I lost, have inspired me to adopt a vegan/organic lifestyle and exercise daily. High-quality food is more expensive (I've learned firsthand), but your body is the temple of God, and you are a worthwhile investment.
The amazing thing is that you CAN do it. I never thought I could fast for 10 days, but it really wasn't that hard. You may "miss" food, but you're not truly hungry. My only cautions: 1) you'll need a few hours of extra sleep each night and 2) you should follow the instructions for breaking the fast very carefully, or you may experience cramps and indigestion.
I hope your experience with cleansing proves as positive as mine was.
Book Review: A review of the book - NOT the diet itself Summary: 1 Stars
This book is a crock. It is full of fallacies that the author presents as "truth" to those who don't know any better. Granted, the "master cleanser diet" might very well work (I've decided against it) and the author is fairly up-front of the negative effects one will likely experience. But the explanations and claims this book makes are ridiculous. The author claims that there are no such thing as disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Also, he claims that the lack of protein in this diet is not a problem because your body will assimilate nitrogen and carbon from the air you breathe into the components of protein. Take an introductory biology class, Stanley Burroughs, before you make such laughable claims.
Book Review: A surefire way to cleanse and rejuvenate...give it a chance! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently did the Master Cleanse fast. I was only able to stay on the fast for 6 days because of a number of commitments where I could not avoid eating or drinking, but I can say that even in that short time period I achieved significant benefits. I have long suffered from acid reflux and general stomach maladies, and the cleanse helped a great deal in relieving my symptoms and generally cleaning things out. I could have easily stayed on the cleanse four more days. A word about this book - it is not particularly well-written, detailed, or scientific. Burroughs is a natural healer and the book does not read like a medical journal. While I think it is essential to read this text and understand the foundation for the Master Cleanser, I found the abundant materials available online to be much more useful (just search for "master cleanser"). I agree with other reviewers that recommend reading the Yahoo! discussion group mastercleanse - you can learn a lot from the experiences of others (such as the fact that EVERYONE has a hard time the first few days, and that is normal and will pass). I happen to find the lemonade delicious, and as many others have noted, I missed the experience of eating, but my stomach did not want for food. The second day was the hardest for me, as I saw way too many advertisements for food and drinks, but once you push through that hump, things get MUCH easier - you will not even miss the food. I lost about 6 pounds, which have not come back 1 month later. I did not consider myself overweight before the fast, and I believe that the more weight you have to lose, the greater your results will be if you are faithful to healthy eating once you end the fast. I am a firm believer in natural healing, and believe that this cleanse as well as other types of healthy fasts (juice, etc) can yield great benefits. We inundate our bodies with toxins on a daily basis - give yourself a chance to heal. Try the Master Cleanse - you will be amazed at how much better you feel. Just the discipline you gain over your habits is truly remarkable.
Book Review: A welcommed addition to any library. Summary: 5 Stars
Many people have changed their lives following Stanley Burroughs program: The Master Cleanser--and to think it was written over 50 years ago. This is one book the drug companies would rather you not have. It does work--and helps cure various ailments, including hypoglycemia, anemia, and cravings. It reassures the power of the mind and healing ability of the body. The Master Cleanser has excellent details and easy to follow instructions--and anyone should be able to get involved in the program. Stanley Burroughs book is informative as far as foundational information is concerned; like the medical information on lemons and the building blocks of protein and how the acids work in our bodies. Burroughs was right in saying that you would not have hunger pains, that your addictions to food would disappear. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about cleaning out their body and getting healthy, plus lose a few pounds in the process. Excellent book--and remember to stick with it; If you cheat, you're only cheating yourself.
