Book Reviews of The Menstruating Mall

Book Review: Fun, disquieting read.
Summary: 4 Stars

It's a good, fun, trashy book. Simple writing, which I love. I enjoyed the 3rd act most, the finale definately challenges your imagination and gave me the heebie-jeebies. I'm going to order more of CM3's work. He's my favorite bizarro writer and a fine humorist.

Book Review: Fun, satirical, read
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book in between my college classes. It is fast paced and fun to read and made me laugh out loud about a dozen times. The characters are hilariously stereotypical but definitely that way by design. This book has definitely surreal moments and circumstances, as the title mentions, the mall is literally menstruating, which even though that is hard to picture or understand, it actually makes sense in the context of this book. I've read other books by Carlton Mellick III and I would say that this is one of his best. The plot is well fleshed out and the setting is very strange and compelling. Oh, and the illustrations are killer!

Book Review: Funny
Summary: 4 Stars

Hilarious social commentary on the mundane in all of us. Follow 10 stereotypical people trapped in a mall trying to elude a killer. I read it while watching Monday night football so it is not a difficult read but overall it was highly enjoyable!

Book Review: Funny, Weird, & Really Good
Summary: 4 Stars

With Menstruating Mall, Carlton Mellick III takes social satire, mixes in some sci-fi action, and smears the whole thing with a disgusting goo. The language is simple and easy to read, but I think the point is to tell a story as simply as possible, without all the literary fluff. With this genre, the format works. Get in, paint a picture, and get out. The imagery will not soon leave your mind. As far as bizarro fiction goes, Carlton is one of the best at creating outrageous stories, in strange worlds, with underlying exaggerated pokes at how real life is or may become. Take a chance and read something different that will challenge your idea of what storytelling can and should be.

Book Review: Great Toilet Read
Summary: 4 Stars

This doozy can and should be devoured in the bathroom during several crapping sessions. A twisted take on "And then There were None" leads us into the mall for a first-hand account of a group of stereotypical lame-o's trapped while the mall is having its period.

You get pretty much what you'd expect and then some. Mellick goes all out in this literary flipping of the birdie and delivers.
