Book Review: A Different Experience
Summary: 4 Stars
This book arrived promptly, in good condition and was as advertized. I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I still have it on my night stand and continue to pick it up and re-read portions and think about the story. My father and most of his immediate family spent their lives working in a textile mill in GA and it was very interesting to read about the early days of being a cotton mill worker in a very different mill enviroment . While I know that this type of work was very hard in all mills, the extreme hardships described in this book and the desolate lives described were very different from the circumstances of my family and my cotton mill town experience. My family worked at a textile mill and lived in the mill village, but considered it good work and a good life. Our homes were well cared for by the owners of the mill, social services were provided for all the employees, and health insurance and retirement benefits were also available. Those of us who grew up in this apparently unique mill town enviroment usually describe it as living in "Mayberry". So, while I knew a completely different type of story than the one described in this book, I still found it very compelling.
