Book Review: A progressively child-centred approach to parenting.

Jan Hunt presents a collection of the columns she has written for a Canadian parenting magazine, in her book: The Natural Child. These cover issues ranging from attachment parenting (co-sleeping, using a sling etc), discipline ('loving guidence'), and home-schooling. She will take your breath away with her gentle wisdom, and intuition. She upholds the child as our teacher, and she generates a humble appreciation for life from a child's viewpoint.My only frustration was with her tendency to summerise her views by structuring them into: "Ten ways to ....." or "Ten reasons.....". For more indepth material on similar themes I recommend Alice Miller, Harville Hendrix & Helen Hunt, Jean Liedloff and Jan Fortune-Wood. For even less indepth books, try William Sears. Personally I like to leave books such as these lying all over the house to dip into whenever I can, and thus retain a positive attitude toward the kids, and feel motivated in my parenting. And believe me, who doesn't need this!
