Book Reviews of The Neverending Story (Firebird)Book Review: Neverending Story Summary: 4 StarsThis is a wonderful story that draws you into it just like it did Bastian. It's a must read for adults as well as children. I was looking for the same printing of the book I had found in a local library in the 1980's which was larger and printed in different color inks. Even though this edition of the book is like a hardbound paperback, the story is just as good.
Book Review: Most Excellent Read Summary: 5 StarsAm reading to my 8 and 10 year old boys and they can't get enough. Best find since Harry Potter series.
Book Review: Don't buy the paperback edition Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a wonderful book, but it has to be read in the original hardback edition. The hardback edition is printed in two colors of ink, and this is integral to the story. The paperback version uses the usual black text with one of the colors replaced by italics to distinguish it. Spend the extra few dollars to get the hardback edition; you'll be glad you did.
Book Review: A Neverending Love Summary: 5 StarsI have always been one of those people that sees a movie and must read the book. Well since I had grown up watching The Neverending Story on the Disney Channel, it had never really occured to me that there maybe a novel of the same title, so I must admit my surprise when browsing through a bookstore, I came across this fantastic book. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves being captured in a story. I first read this novel when I was in 6th grade, and now that I am about to graduate college, I have probably read this book 10 times since and everytime I find another reason to love it. Do yourself a favor and read this book.
Book Review: Remember, It's Okay to Dream Summary: 5 StarsI loved the movie as a kid so when I saw this book on Amazon, I thought it would be a fun read. Turns out that the movie is barely the first half of the book, and the book is better without comparison (Atreyu's horse talks in the book - how cool is that!). I had trouble putting the book down. My only disappointment is that my favorite part of the movie (when the giant says "they look like big, strong hands don't they?") isn't in the book.
Atreyu and Falkor remain essential characters in the book. They are the moral standard - the perfect friends. Bastian goes through a learning process, and the reader does too. My favorite aspects: Atreyu's conversation with Gmork, the emphasis on friendship, the Desert of Colors, the ambivalence of the child-like empress.
This book made me think and made me remember that it is okay to dream. Who can argue with that?
