Book Reviews of The New BabyBook Review: Good for older siblings of an adopted baby Summary: 4 Stars
While reading this book, it struck me that the way everything was worded, it would be a good book for a family who was adopting a new baby - there is no mention of coming home from the hospital, just that our new baby is coming home today. And the new baby certainly doesn't act like a newborn.
My one complaint is that the baby is shown bottlefeeding herself, and while most adopted babies do tend to be bottlefed (you can breastfeed an adopted baby), feeding time should be one where the parent and baby are involved together, not with the baby feeding herself. Certainly not at the age she is shown to be.
Book Review: Good for toddlers under age 2 Summary: 4 Stars
My son is 18 months old, and we're expecting a baby girl in another 2 months. My son loves this book and often asks me to read it. He enjoys pointing to the Mama, the Daddy, the little boy and the baby sister (and the mouse!) on each page, which I think is helping him understand that a family can include a little boy and a baby sister.
My only gripe is that the baby is shown eating from a bottle, whereas I plan to breastfeed. Sadly, this seems to be a near-universal problem with children's books about new siblings.
Book Review: Good intro to baby Summary: 4 Stars
My 2 year old likes this book very much, his little brother will be born in a few months and I think the new baby concept is sinking in with the help of this book. The big brother in the book is a great example for him to follow.
Book Review: Great Choice! Summary: 5 Stars
This book was perfect for my two year old grandson. He loves the Mercer Mayer books already, and was familiar with the character. It explained in simple words some of the things, both positive and negative, about having a new baby in the house. I think this is a great choice for a young child!
Book Review: Great book to prepare your little one for the new baby Summary: 5 Stars
This book is good to read for a little boy who is going to have a new sibling. Teaches them, in a short format, that they will be able to do things with the new baby, although limited, are still important. Good book to get your son understanding the role of being a big brother :)
