Book Reviews of The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night

Book Review: Mommies Know Best
Summary: 5 Stars

Words cannot alone express how much the gentle advice of this warm, informative book has enriched my life and benefited my two young daughters. New mommies often feel intimidated by "theories" and "expert advice"...this book encourages moms to listen to their hearts and provide for their babies in a gentle, safe and loving way.

Elizabeth provides the reader with a variety of useful techniques from a mother's point of view. I NEVER thought I would ever call my first-born, co-sleeping, full-time nurser a "good" sleeper...but, because of Elizabeth, we now have truly peaceful nights.

This book will speak to your heart.

Book Review: The alternative method to get your baby to sleep
Summary: 5 Stars

Loved this book, (hated the Gina Ford method, struggled with the let baby fall asleep on me approach), here we have the book to teach us to work with baby to provide the right conditions for baby to sleep. Within days, happy baby, happy mum.

Book Review: Breastfeeding-Friendly bedtime solutions!
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi everyone! I am a lactation consultant and registered dietitian. Our daughter is now 21 months but when she turned a year we had been struggling with moving her from our 'family bed' into her crib. Each night brought tears, frustration, and utter exhaustion. We tried The No-Cry Sleep Solution and the ideas were excellent! Now I am proud (and so thankful!!) to say that using our nap and bedtime routine has worked so well that Makala usually says "Bye-Bye" as I'm leaving her room. SO much different than the months before reading this book.

I highly recommend Elizabeth's book - both as a lactation professional and a mother. I've recommended it to countless other frantic, sleep-deprived parents with similar success. Get your copy before tonight's bedtime! : )

P.S. Definitely do the work involved to do the sleep log. You will want to jump right into the ideas but it makes a huge difference to see where you are starting from and what might work best for your family.

Book Review: Real Solutions for Real Babies by a Real Mum
Summary: 5 Stars

Take a look at the reviews for other baby behaviour books on Amazon, and you will see that most divide people: Love or Hate. Few if any get the consistently glowing and grateful reviews that this book receives. And all that praise is well earned.

This is a beautiful book. It's friendly and constructive style means that you will soon be looking on Elizabeth Pantley as a best pal. She writes from her own experience as a mother of four, and then thorugh her work helping other mothers.

One crucial difference with her approach is that she does not dictate. Every mother knows that her child is a unique individual, but some behaviour books treat babies like robots who must be dealt with in a certain way to get the 'correct' response. EP spends the first part of the book helping the reader to work out their own programme, based on their child's character, and upon your own family situation. She then provides positive, encouraging solutions to get you where you want to be. No tears, no bullying, and it works.

It's like a breath of fresh air.

Book Review: disappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

i do agree very much with the author's sentiments on this subject, so if this book is helpful to people, that is really great but i felt very disappointed with this book for several reasons.

firstly, it only goes up to age 2! i bought this book when my son reached 2, looking for some tips really on how to get him to go to sleep 'by himself' - and this book doesn't have any, at all.

most of the book gives you common sense stuff that i'd already employed as a mother of a breastfed baby.

secondly, and i often find this in american books, is that there is really lots of obvious advice. i remember at one point the author suggests keeping the blinds down if you don't want too much daylight, or keeping them open if you do!!!!!! its hard not to feel that this is a lot of "filler", i.e. stuff to "fill" the pages. What the author usefully had to say could probably fit in a small pamphlet.

On the same subject - also i find this in a lot of american books, i don't know if this is a coincidence - there were a lot of pages actually just blank really with axis, to "measure" your baby's progress, which i found personally off-putting (she also seemed to insist these be used), and also just a huge waste of space.

so i was very disappointed with the book for all these reasons. perhaps its a useful book if you have a newborn but i reckon there are more useful books on the market.
