Reynolds definitely deserves all the rave reviews because of the beautiful, basic, uncomplicated illustrations which gives //The North Star// a crisp look. His previous works include such acclaimed books for children as //The Dot//, //Ish//, and //So Few of Me//. The message in this book is lighthearted and uplifting. The book offers universal appeal that effectively bridges the barriers between child and adult readers. Everyone experiences a journey. Whether good or bad, Peter H. Reynolds effectively inspires readers to observe, to wonder, and to consider diverging from the well-worn path... to follow their dreams. It is often said that "life is a journey," and this is true. But sometimes it's difficult to know which path to follow when signs point in so many directions. The different arrows in this book represent the many choices that are handed to us. There really is no right path but "our" path. Readers will also realize that people (or animals, in this case) have different paths and are simply happy and content to be exactly where they are and how we should respect their choices of being there. I highly recommend this book, especially as a graduation gift.
