Book Reviews of The Nursing Mother's Companion: Revised EditionBook Review: Wonderful Resourse for New Moms Summary: 5 StarsThis book helped me so much as I was learning to care for my newborn. It's a great resource, very informative without being pushy. Also gives good references for more information on feeding solids as the baby grows - I bought "Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense" by Ellyn Satter, on Hudgins' reccommendation, and that has also been a wonderful resource.
Book Review: imforative Summary: 5 StarsVery imformative. Helped me out alot as a new mother dealing with a micr preemie. How to store the milk etc.
Book Review: My standard new-mommy gift of choice! Summary: 5 StarsThis has become my standard new-mommy gift of choice. It is absolutely the best resource for nursing mothers out there today. The author Kathleen Huggins gives good practical advice without being preachy, and offers tutorials and troubleshooting to help any new nursing mother along. I had just about every problem you can encounter nursing my first child, and this book never left the rocking chair I used to nurse him -- a day didn't go by for weeks that I wasn't using it to look something up. It's informative, educational and full of reassurance, which is something every new mother needs.
Book Review: Must Have for Nursing Moms Summary: 5 StarsNursing is natural, but NOT intuitive. So glad I bought this book, not that I read it front to back, but there were definitely sections that helped me trouble-shoot and provided the support, recommendations, and reassurances that I needed to get me through the trials of nursing my baby.
Book Review: Wish I had read it sooner! Summary: 5 StarsI haven't read any other breastfeeding books but this book was a lifesaver for me. My little one had problems latching on and took a week to finally do it. I was ready to give up and read a sentence that basically said keep trying, one day it'll work. That was just the encouragement I needed! The next day, he latched on and we never looked back. I wish I had read this before my arduous week of trying including using the SNS and the nipple shield and every other device intended to help. If you don't know what a nipple shield and a SNS is or what tongue tied or sucking on their tongue is, I highly recommend you get this book and at least read the first few chapters before you give birth. It was so hard to figure it all out in the hospital when you are on pain medicine, you have a half hour with the lactation consultants and you and your little one are exhausted. I wish I had read this so I understood what our challenges were or could have been. Good luck and don't give up!
