It is a beautifully illustrated book with vivid colors and pictures that keeps the interest of a 5 year old until the end. This book is an EXCELLENT version of the classic--THE classic story of the nutcracker! I had previously bought another version, excited to share it with my little girl. I was so disappointed when I started reading to her about a girl named "Marie!" It wasn't at all what I wanted, so I was thrilled to find Vagin's book. It is the exact same story you see in the beautiful ballet productions, with the little girl "Clara"--the true classic that all little ballerinas should know. It is short enough to hold the attention of my five-year old, and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful. A definite must for your little ballerina!!!Book Review: beautiful illustrations

After looking at about half a dozen nutcracker ballet story versions, this one was the best.
We first went to see the ballet when my daughter was 3.5. Having read the book was really helpful. The illustrations and colors are just beautiful. This is a keeper for many generations of girls (and boys!) who love ballet!

it was christmas 1989 and before the holidays my grade 1 class was studying this book and we even saw the ballet downtown and I thought it was so pretty that my mom bought me the storybook and I really loved all the illustrations and my favourite parts were how big the candies were. I plan to see the ballet again if it plays again in my hometown this christmas.
