Book Review: Why?
Summary: 1 Stars
This is a magnificently produced book about the world's greatest sporting event. So why was it deemed necessary to include a colour photo of Fabio Casartelli lying dead in a pool of his own blood? Many of his team-mates are still riding, Lance Armstrong included. What kind of a tribute is this, either to the race or the man? The book also contains a full page photo of the dead Tom Simpson plus various other corpses (crashed motorcyclists). Fatalities happen in many sports but this does not give us, the public, the right to be entertained by it. I was greatly looking foward to this book but I wont be buying now.
