Book Review: a masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars
An enchanting story, filled with true japanese delicacy. The action is set in the mid fifties, but the reader believes he is witnessing an eightenth century romance. Kawabata touches the questions of forbidden love, both sisterly and romantic, class distinction, meditation and japanese love of nature, etc., with unsual mastery and surprising minimalism. Wonderful. Kyoto is the original title, but "the old capital" is also a good title and fits the atmosphere of the book very well.
